Well - first of all there is no direct rail connection from LHR to Edinburgh. You would have to go into London on the Paddington express, transfer by taxi or tube to Kings Cross and then catch a train. Because of competition from low cost airlines, the London - Scotland fares are pretty good. Almost certainly the train would cost more.
