Would like feedback for Renato/Cuomo car service

My husband and I will be traveling from the train station in Naples to Positano this August and back again, with a stop in Herculaneum. We don't want to rent a car, so are hiring a driver instead. The best quote I have gotten is from Renato at Cuomo Limo. I know Ira was very happy with his services. Has anyone else used him?

Hi cheryl,

You can also look him up at www.Frommers.com for more reviews.

Thank you all so much. I did check out Frommers and also did a search on this board. I've booked Renato and am looking forward to a very enjoyable anniversary trip!!

I am thinking of doing the same thing; Any idea of what it would cost to be picked up at Naples airport, drive to Herculaneum, spend several hours sightseeing, then have them drive us down to Positano? Would this itinerary be at all possible using public transportation (bus, train, boat)? Thank you!!!

It is possible to do all that by public transportation, but it seemed to be too much of a time-wasting hassle for me (although I am sure it's much cheaper!). We are doing the same in reverse - being picked up in Positano, going to tour Herculaneum, and then to the train station in Naples. Renato gave a price of E140.

Hi jck,

>Would this itinerary be at all possible using public transportation..?<

You will have to take a bus or cab to Napoli Centrale to get the train to Portici Ercolano (Herculaneum). It's about 15 min by train.

From Herculaneum you will have to go back to Napoli Centrale to get the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento.

You then take the SITA bus to Positano.

yikes!! What a bother. E140 sounds worth it to save that hassle. Thanks!

Ask around and get a better quote from some of the other companies, play one off the other, they all bargain.

I would definitely take the private driver over the train hassle if you don't mind spending the money, I think it is worth it.

Where does Renato pick you up at Naples train station? I have read at the end of the Train Tracks. True?
Due to Ira's highly regarded view of Renato we will be booking with him.
cherylac, if you haven't left yet, when are you leaving from Naples to Positano? Just curious.

Hi aimela,

>Where does Renato pick you up at Naples train station?<

I suggest you ask him. He picked us up at the head of the tracks and we walked to his car.

We just returned from Naples and Positano....if you are asking about a single day trip, and you don't wish to rent a car, it is best to take one of the many available ferries to Positano from Naples. Then bus back up towards Naples....the sea route is much simpler, and most significantly, much more beautiful.....nothing can compare to seeing the Sorrento peninsula and the Positano bay from the sea on a clear day (and the skies are almost always clear) This costs 9Euros, and the bus trip back can be easily arranged. The normal bus(without a guide) runs once an hour and costs about 5E/each...once you are on the Amalfi coast, there are many services available with a guide...most hotels offer them....
Most importantly...this is perhaps the most beautiful place on this earth...so dont hurry...you will not regret it...

We used Renato to go from Naples train station to Sorrento in June and he was great. I would definitely use his service again.

yes, I would agree with these recomendations. Renato was reliable and friendly and definitely worth paying for the convenience of getting straight from Naples complete with baggage and kids to the door of our hotel in Positano. We paid 70 euros in August. We phoned him on the day to tell him which train we were going to be on and he picked us up at the end of the platform with a sign with my name on

I am thinking of using this car service to pick us up at the airport in Rome and take us to our hotel in Sorrento. I have seen some of the negative comments about this service on this forum, as well as some of the positive comments. Am topping this to see if there are any additional comments. Their price is much better than Bob's Limos and comparable with a quote I received from Duegolfi. What I'm most concerned about, probably obviously, is that they show up to get us, although if they don't I guess we could just rent a car and not be out any money.

Hi Ruth,

I guess that you run the same risks no matter who you use.

When we were in Naples during the electric blackout, Mr Cuomo came and got us 3 hrs early because it was raining and Naples was closed.

Hi Ira,

Yes, you're right about the risk being the same. And I had seen your favorable experience with Renato Cuomo, which counted a lot with me. So I guess I'll just book them. Thanks.
