I know you said hotels, but here are some vacation apartments (from 95 euro) with wireless:

It may help if you look up
www.boingo.com

They are a wireless internet provider and they have many hotspots in Barcelona and Madrid including lots of hotels.

Maybe you might recognize the names of the hotels from your research and their list and be able to pair one or two with a hotspot.

I cannot personally vouch for the hotels on the list, just thought it might give you a starting point.

Good luck.

Just a warning over boingo. Watch your billing. They have double billed me more then once. (They also seem to think it's OK to bill even if their system isn't working and you don't actually get on.) After about three issues with them, if that's the only option I just don't get onlline.

Thanks Carol for the heads up.

I will keep an eye on the bill.

I am just going to try them. I may not like them.

Something I find appalling is that many/most hotels in Spain (no matter their star-rating) have the nerve to charge for WiFi internet access - and that's on top of the high prices you (may) are already paying for the room.

More and more hostels (called "hostales" in Spain/Spanish - and not to be confused with YOUTH hostels) in Spain are offering FREE WiFi in their establishments and they charge much less for their rooms than do hotels.

So why don't hotels offer FREE WiFi if their profit margin is so much greater than in hostels?
