Winter apartment in Vienna

My husband and I are planning to go to Vienna for a week at the end of February. We would like to stay in a centrally-located apartment. Our budget is $200. american per night. While we would like central location we also would prefer someplace where we can possibly buy good take-out food for dinners. We did this last year in Paris (Le Marais district) and it worked out very well. Thank you for any suggestions.

Hello; I have just gotten a report from a friend who was just in Vienna. They stayed at: http://tinyurl.com/y2srk2
I have had other people tell me good things about these apartments, which are right near the State Opera house...good restaurants abound in this area, I'd eat in the wonderful atmosphere of them, but they may offer take away.

Hi, Marie: We stayed in apt. 1 at the Opernring at the same time as the Operaman's friends were in apt. 2 and we were very happy there. Our apt. was just finished in the spring of '06 - so everything was new and lovely. The location was just great for walking and there were two grocery stores (with delis) nearby (including the very large Billa). The only small difficulty I had was that our apt. did not face Elisabthstrasse but the side street which was very busy most of the night and because I have some difficulty sleeping, I found it hard some nights. My husband found this less of an issue. Other than that, the family and the apt. were wonderful.

Marie! We just returned from Vienna and stayed in the Duschel apartment (link below). It was WONDERFUL! You do not need a car for anything, and everything is close; U and grocery store very close. Non smoking unit, internet access. The noise from Operngasse is not that bad, but they do have other units.

Can you tell me if these recommended Vienna apartments have any English TV channels? Perhaps CNN or BBC?

I have just returned from Vienna where I rented an apartment for 2 weeks.

It is small - I was on my own for most of the time - my husband came at the weekend - but it was perfectly clean and modern - just renovted. 5 mins walk to the Stephansdom - very secure - great area - and has an English owner. I really enjoyed my time there.

The website - http://www.netland.at
has some great looking apartments - I contacted a few people before I made my decision and they we all very helpful.

Thank you for all the feedback. We have booked the Duschel apartment for 6 nights. We are attending at least one opera so the location should be very convenient.

If you like the Vienna Philharmonic, go to their office on Kartner Ring and get standing room only tickets. They are 4.5 euro apiece. If you get there about 80-90 minutes before to wait in line, you will probably have first chance at front row standing. It is amazing!
