Scoop on Vienna Hotel Opernring

Can't seem to find any but most perfunctory info on this Best Western Hotel. Pictures reveal little. Location seems OK. Is anyone familiar with and able to give an opinion. Also the Astoria seems to be in an excellent location, but no personal reviews. Is there an Ace with the scoop on these hotels.

Thanks Bob, I needed that reassurance. I like the location, but was a little leary because of the lack of info. I think the KVU is quite a bit more expensive.

i have been to vienna twice - firts time stayed in a pretty ordinary motel, second time was much better (and comparable price) - self catering apartment overlooking st stevens cathedral - subway entrance on doorstep, but walking distance to most sites anyway. it was apartment sacher (not to be confused with sacher hotel which is extremely posh and pricey too!) i found it on the internet, although i don't have the link anymore. it was simply furnished but each apartment has its own bathroom and the location is unbeatable!!!

Just returned from Vienna yesterday after having spent 4 nights at the Astoria. If you want to be close to the center city, you're there. The opera house, St Stephens, Kartnerstrasse (shopping),the art and natural history museums are all within easy walking distance, as well as several subway stops. The hotel is older, high ceilings, no A/C, my family found it very quaint. The staff was very helpful. Breakfast was fine, too. Neither I, my wife, nor my 3 daughters regretted our stay there.

Try nethotels.com as they have many listings of hotels/pensions in Vienna--also the Best Western website. If you still have concerns, look at the Hotelpension Arenberg--also a BW and in very nice location (within ring) and very reasonable, nice rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast.

Stayed at Hotel Opernring several years ago. Great location across from opera and easy walking to center city, Hofburg and Museums. When there, the owner was a lady who was extremely helpful, got us tickets to Vienna Boys Choir on Xmas morning, etc. Rooms are plain, price was right.

Thanks Tom<BR>Could you tell me whether you had a room in the front or rear of the hotel? Was the room and bath fairly spacious? my husband is a big man and likes to have a litle room to move around. Is there a view of the opera house from front rooms? How was the buffet breakfast? Sorry for all the questions but I'd sure like to clarify since we have a reservation.
