Windsor-Which day better than others?

Hello All,

We are thinking of going to Windsor for a day next summer-early July. Is a Saturday better than a Thursday or vice versa? I understand that sometimes the castle is closed if the Queen is in residence or if there is a function. Does the changing of the guard occur everyday in the beginning of July or every other day?

Thanks.

hi novice,

here's the link to the official website.

http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/de...le&ID=34#guard

i can't think of any reason why a Saturday shoudl be better than a Thursday, or vice versa.

it suggests that the changing of the guard will be happening until the end of July 2010.

regards, ann

I'd avoid weekends if at all possible. A Saturday will usually be much more crowded than a weekday because local day trippers will be in the mix.

Thanks folks,

I heard that the changing of the guard though can be more elaborate when the Queen is in residence but then again the state apartments could also be closed when she is in and I read she likes to be there on the weekends. Wasn't sure what was best.

I'd also avoid weekends due to crowds. The changing of the guards was kind of boring IMO... I left towards the end of it to enter the Apartments - that was a good idea as most of the visitors were still watching the changing of the guards, so the line for the Apartments was short.
