Why does everyone like Prague so much?

I studied in Prague for 6 weeks during the summer in 2003. Although a majority of my time was taken up with school stuff, I was able to be a tourist during my stay. I thoroughly enjoyed the place. I didn't drive while I was there so I can't comment on the behavior of the police officer.
I'm sorry you had an awful time, but there are some good things about the city.

I do wonder why Prague and Budapest have become the center of the European porno industry. Since there are far more "desperate" countries, it can't just be because of economic problems. What gives?

Been there 12 times, and will continue to go back. It is getting more and more touristy. Solution - try NOT following every tourist with a camera and map. Take a side street and explore. Check out Prague 2, 3, 6, etc. There is A LOT to see and do, and criticizing this beautiful and unique city, because one does not branch out from the typical tourist route, is naive. It is like saying you went to NY, but you only walked around Time Square, and found it tacky and shallow. The people are reserved - not snobby. They will give you the shirt off their back, once they get to know you. Try going in the off season, and check out real culture - not tourist concerts. Try eating at a REAL Czech place (learn a few food terms), and you might like the dining better. Try reading about the history, as well as the local news, so you will appreciate more of what you see, instead of dwelling on the stag parties you see. The drunk Brits are a product of cheap airfare - they are NOT part of the permanent and valuable history of a place that just celebrated 20 years of freedom.
