Which Tuscany town for day trip from Florence

We will be arriving in Florence on Thursday April 8 and staying through Monday. Since it is Easter, and almost everything will be closed on Monday, we want to take a day trip(by bus) to a town in Tuscany. But we haven't any idea which place (town) would be easiest, most interesting to visit. We will be leaving Florence for Rome by train on Tuesday.

We were in Tuscany this fall and made a couple of day trips from Florence. We had two favorites. San Gimingiano was the perfect small lovely hilltop tuscan town with lovely towers and terrific views. We had the place to ourselves which made it perfect to explore. Sienna was our second favorite. Size-wise, Sienna falls in-between San Gimingiano and Florence. There was alot more to see in Sienna -the piazza, the Duomo, the main street on which locals gather to stroll and meet others in the early evening. The views here were also great. We also saw Lucca and Pisa. Lucca was lovely but it was quite cold and many things were closed. If you are looking for the quiet idyllic tuscan town with perfect views -then San Gimingiano. If you want a bit more activity, the old part of Sienna is lovely. I would suggest at least a day trip to each if you have the time.

Siena--1:10 by bus or train but bus is better. Second choice is Lucca.

PS,

You can take the no7 bus from the train station up to Fiesole - about 20 min.

Very nice, small hilltown with good views of Florence and the river valley.
