I have yet to be disappointed by any of my destinations - in fact, my only disappointment is that there are so many cities and towns in Europe that I have not seen yet.

I have taken my daughter to both Prague (when she was 13), Vienna, and Budapest, and she absolutely loved them all. In Budapest we stayed in a very nice hotel, with an excellent restaurant and Hungarian music. Unfortunately, there were so many American tourists that one night the band played only American showtunes - "New York", "If I were a Rich Man", and "Memory". This gaggle of Americans insisted on bitching about the cost of beer, while consuming vast quantities of alcohol, laughing moronically, and clapping like they were at "hoe down".

What is the point of going to Hungary to eat American food and listen to American music? I can get that every day of my life.

A helpful bit of advice to avoid being let down is to study your destination before you get there, and don't go to a place just because somebody else recommended it. Learn some history, learn some of the language, have an alternate plan if museums are closed.

If you stay home, you'll leave more room for the rest of us who appreciate a good thing.
