Hi, everyone,

We will be in Munich at the end of December and plan to use Marriott points to cover our hotel stay. Can anyone help me compare the Marriott, the Courtyard, and the Renaissance?

From my research, it looks to me like the Courtyard has the best location, but the Marriott is the nicest of the three. I've seen very little about the Renaissance, so I guess I'm not really cosidering that one too much.

We will likely spend two nights in Munich at the beginning of our trip and possibly a few more nights at the end of the trip, so we could choose to stay at both the Courtyard and the Marriott. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Anyway, another question about these hotels. We will likely take a train to Salzburg for a few days and also a train to somewhere in southern Bavaria (possibly Fussen) for a day trip. Is either of these hotels more convenient to whichever train station we would need? Thanks!

I have stayed several times at the Marriott in München. It is a nice hotel indeed. It is a little out of the center, but there is a U-Bahn station close to the hotel and within five minutes you are right in the center of München or at the main train station.

We have stayed at both and the Renaissance is the nicer of the two but the courtyard has the better location of the two for the things we like to do. Both are more American style hotels (comforteers rather than down feather beds). The courtyead is not bad by any means. The Renaissance is very close to an S-bahn station so you can get to Marienplatz or the bahnhof easily. We just like to get the more Wuropean or German experience if we can.

I've stayed at all three. I used Priceline last December and got the Courtyard for $55 a night. The Courtyard is very close to the train station, if that is any consideration.

I used points for the Renaissance and was very happy with it. The only reason I would stay at the Marriott over the Renaissance would be for the pool or the air-conditioning in the summer.

I think the Courtyard is very good. Do all three hotels cost the same amount of points?

I do know that getting upgrades as a Platinum is next to impossible at the Courtyard, but I don't know about the others.

Thanks for the great information, everyone! We're still undecided, but now we're thinking more and more about the Renaissance.

WillTravel, the Marriott costs the most points, and I think the Courtyard and the Renaissance are the same (or at least very close). Luckily, we have more than enough points that we don't need to scrimp and save them - but why bother using more points at the Marriott if it's not the best choice?

Anyway, I'm off to go research the Renaissance a bit more. Thanks again!
