Wohoo, I go away for a day, and lots of more info coming my way, thank you all!
There are a few things that are now settled: we’ll get a guide in Ephesus and will do Cappadocia first, before the coast. The tentative itinerary now looks like this:
Land in Istanbul, 5 nights/4 days there, with a day trip to Ephesus
Fly to Cappadocia, 4 nights/3 full days there
Fly to Dalman and spend 5 days on the coast – fly out of Antalya (via Istanbul) back home
Is this ok? Should we take 1 day from the coast and add to Istanbul? Even if we do not find cheap flights on other airlines, I think Turkish Airlines has these flights in October, so logistically, this seems feasible.
A few more questions: What do people do about dry clothes in Saklikent? Where do you change after? Should we rent a car in Cappadocia, or take tours? We generally like the flexibility of a car, but would we miss having a guide? Can we just hire a guide at major sites?
<<You can then arrange for a guide in Selcuk for all the sites in Selcuk or just take a taxi to the hill entrance of Ephesus>>
I looked for a map to get a sense of distances, but could not found any…What sites are in Selcuk, and where is the Ephesus entrance in relation to Selcuk?
<<Make sure you plan well because you will not have time for all>>
OC, I know you and everybody else here will help me make the best of the short time we have I already have a much better idea of what to do and see, and this is all thanks to you all.

Ephesus hill entrance is about 1.5 miles and the lower entrance 0ne mile from Selcuk.
I already mentioned two sites within Selcuk. There is Isa Bey mosque also and if you are lucky you will be there on a market day, usually Saturday. The Selcuk castle may not be open for visitors. Sirince village where people are flocking now in the hope that a UFO will pick them up on December 21 when the rest of the world suffers a cataclysm, is another possibility and less than five miles from Selcuk.
Just reading trip reports and/or guide books is not enough. You should probably start taking short notes and making lists of places to visit at different locations so that you can work on logistics and eventually add to or subtract from the list.

OC, thanks – had we known, we should’ve planned this trip around the Dec 21 UFO “event” in Sirinice. But as it goes, I’m saving my money for the Oct trip, hopefully the world will still be here by then
On a more serious note, I am actually taking more than short notes. I am still in “compiling the list” phase, and I know it would require more than all the time I have to see it all. But with a map in hand, with other travelers’ experiences and knowing our traveling style (not driving more than a few hours a day, spending more time exploring sites), I hope I can narrow it down. I’ll come back with more specific questions…thanks again.

Otherchelebi, I thought the UFOs would come to Bugarech in France? http://m.directmatin.fr/#article/231214 (in French)
xyz99, I really like your new itinerary. I am trying to add some days to my own trip in May, and I like the way you have organized yours.
What airlines are you looking at for your day trip to Ephesus and from Cappadocia to Dalman?
Also, do you have an outline for your days on the coast yet?

Sirince and Bugarech are the only two locations specified. By who???????
Our alumni club is having an end of the world live music party with a group from the 60's that evening!!!
By the way, there are no direct flights from Cappadocia to Dalaman.
For Ephesus, you need to fly to Izmir. Check www.bulacak.com for all flights or individual websites for Sun Express, Pegasus, THY, Anadolu Jet, Bora Jet, Atlas, Onur

I like your latest itinerary a lot. I recommend Kas as a base for your coast time -- it fits your desire for a small town with good restaurants, and it provides easy access to the highlights of the coast. I stayed for a month last October and could have stayed much longer. The October entries from my blog from that trip describe some of the highlights, if you'd like to check it out. http://aprilaroundtheworld.blogspot....anean-gem.html

grendel, I haven’t looked yet into the Ephesus day trip details – I will leave that for last, because I think it’s the easiest. To maximize the time there, I think we will fly in/out on our own and hire a private guide and car. Just a thought now, no real details.
For the Kayseri-Dalaman flight, I checked Turkish Airlines, and found flights through Istanbul (not a direct one on any airline). I could not find anything for our dates on other airlines, but I guess it’s too early. For the in/out of Turkey flights, I think we will fly United into Istanbul and out of Antalya. I took OC’s advice to go to Cappadocia early, and it is our preference to start with the big city – and that’s what the itinerary took shape.
No outline for the coast yet, I need to review all the notes I accumulated. All I know for now is that we will have probably 5 nights, that we will split between Fethiye (or Kas, it does look very nice) and probably Cirali. I will post an outline when I’ll have a better idea. Same for Cappadocia, and please do the same when you finalize yours.
I am glad that both you and aprillilacs (love the name, and thanks for the blog link, I will read all the Turkey entries) like the new itinerary. I think I am happy with it, too – it fits our interests and likes. I think you will be happy with more days in Turkey, it looks amazing.
OC, can you please confirm the www.bulacak.com address for flights to Izmir?
Thanks

Thanks - the English translation does not work, but thankfully all the airline sites work the same (enter to/from, the dates, one way or both ways),so this is very helpful.
After that screen, hopefully the payment screen is easy to navigate. Or maybe somebody at work speaks Turkish
