Which is nicer to visit - Dole or Mulhouse

We will be driving from Dijon to Munich and are wondering which of these towns would be nicer to stop over at. We are planning to stop in Besancon and have time for one more stop. I've read up on both and there is not much good info. so I'm having a hard time making up my mind. We'll only have about 2 hrs.

I think there is not much good info for a reason. Have never heard of Dole.

We stopped in Mulhouse to see a famous auto museum (great if you love Bugattis) - but what we saw of the town was completely boring.

Dole (labelled Ville d'Art et d'Histoire) is a charming town with no less than 42 historical buildings.

I think that Dole gave itself that name. Apparently it has a number of old buildings (like every other town in FRance?) and a small art museum. Apparently the major sight is the home of Louis Pasteur.

I would get a Micehlin guide for the region. It will rate every sight by # of stars and tell you how long to expect to spend seeing it.

"dol" in old French means a village or a town on a hill overlooking a river.
I find it amusing that you dismiss a town you had never heard of before.

After a day with our children at the aqua park in Dole, we really enjoyed a nice walk in the centre of Dole which is very old and nice (like some parts in Dijon). I don't know Mulhouse but hubby says there is not much to see...
Enjoy your time in Dijon and Besançon!

Thanks for your replies! I think between Dole and Mulhouse, it'll be Dole. We won't have much time anyway. Just want to stop along the way.

I would vote for Mulhouse which has some world class museums.
