Which hotel of these five?
My husband and I are going to Paris in September 2006 (yeah, I'm planning ahead). I've been researching hotels on this site and the Web and I think I've narrowed the choices down to these five: Hotel Axial Beaubourg, Le Madison, Hotel Britannique, Hotel Le Regent, and Hotel Verneuil. We like central Paris and would like to keep the price at or under $300/night. Have stayed in some small rooms (Hotel de Lutece) and hubby would like something a litte bigger. Any opinions? Any other suggestions? Thank you!

I suggest you to repost with "Paris Hotels" as part of the subject heading. I know, I read your post since I am interested in hotels, but others may not read it.
As to your choices, generally choose a deluxe or superior category (i.e. a higher category than 'standard') as those rooms will be roomy. They won't be huge but they won't be as small as standard rooms which are like cells in my opinion. I stayed in a standard double and a deluxe double at Hotel Verneuil on two separate occasions. The deluxe double was not very large but it was much larger than the std. double.

Good grief, so many rules on this board....
I can only comment on the Hotel Britannique. The only down-side is that the standard rooms are very small. My personal feelings about that are that I only sleep & bathe in the room; otherwise I'm out so I don't much care about the size of the room. But your hubby will feel like he's in a little French BOX.
The Junior Suites are 240Euro so maybe that's the ticket.
The upsides are the fabulous LOCATION, the breakfast is very nice and I've only rarely encountered such helpful hotel staff. The lady at the front desk made restaurant & train reservations for me, etc etc. Would definitely stay there again.

We've stayed at the Verneiul several times, though quite a few years ago. The rooms and service were excellent but the rooms were very small, the location houwever is excellent!
Friends stayed at the Britainnique and loved it..I prefer the left bank..only my preference. Another regular poster, who is no longer with us, really liked Le Regent...if you get a superior room.
I don't know what it is but , even though most would laud the location of the Madison..being right on St Germain de Pres , even set back does no appeal.
Don't know anything about the other hotel. Have you checked out the Millesime?

We like le Regent as an affordable, small hotel in the part of Paris where we enjoy visiting. I would say that our rooms have typically been tres petite, so if you're wanting to gambol about a bit in the room--or even pace! the rooms would be too tiny. Mostly the bed takes up the space of the room and one walks along the perimeter of the bed to negotiate the space.
On the upside, the decor is pleasant, the personnel very nice, and the location is very convenient.
Bon chance!

Hi Cherie,
You might wish to consider the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. The larger rooms are about 145 dbl w/bkfst

I was one of the few people who didn't like the Madison a bit. I stayed in one of the less expensive (though expensive) rooms and it was awful. The decoration was more than anoying with a view to the back of the building, terrible. The location though is good. But have a look at the Hotel Pas de Calais. Much cheaper , much nicer rooms and also a great location in St. Germain.

Thank you all for your helpful responses. I can see that Le Madison is now out of our price range, especially for September. Wow, their prices have sure gone up in the past couple of years. I'm leaning toward a deluxe or junior suite in Hotel Britannique or Le Regent, but have to confer over the holidays with the other couple who are going with us. Again, thanks for your comments.
