Which has the better science museum -- Milan or Munich?

We have to choose between seeing the Deutsches museum in Munich or the Leornardo da Vinci museum in Milan..... any preferences, suggestions, comments? Any help would be appreciated!

I have not been to the Leonardo da Vinci museum in Milan, so I cannot speak for that. However, I have been to the Duetches museum and it is spectacular. Great planetarium. I would highly recommend it.

My husband, a physicist by training, spent a very happy day at the museum in Munich--lots of hand-on stuff and interesting demonstrations.

In 1999, we went to the museum in Milan that I think you're calling the Leonardo da Vinci Museum. It was fairly near the Last Supper, and we visited both in the same afternoon.

The museum had scale models of da Vinci's inventions but also had other exhibits on science and technology. There was also a hands-on play area for children to see how da Vinci's inventions work.

Perhaps the museum has seen some improvements in five years, but at the time we were there it felt very "thrown together." Everything was dusty. Information regarding the displays was in Italian only. There were no museum guides to purchase.

The one exhibit I really enjoyed was on violin making. It included a reproduction of a 17th century violin-maker's studio.

Deutsches Museum is a thing of wonder and joy for those who love "Science Friday" - - but a whole lot more - - of potential tangential interest to science lovers: engineering in commerce, and the history of musical instruments, and the physics of musicmaking.

Best wishes,

hi there,
agree with Jean. Milan is a must for Leonardo fans, not too big, without a stucture. I dont know whether they now any information in english, in german they dont hwve. Munich is a must for everyone. You can choose the themes You wanna see (nautic, chemics, acustic, mining ...) Btw: You MUST choose the theme You wanna see, for it is not possible to see the whole musuem in one day (ex. You are jogging trough it). A few things have been taken to two other museums, traffic and airplane (not all).
If You havent done yet, take a look here: http://www.deutsches-museum.de

have fun
