Hi
I have to come up with two cities. you're writing about rewarding so here goes:
Budapest We've been there 3x. The first time in 1992, a couple of years after the communist gov't fell. It was grimier and the the stores carried shoddy looking clothing etc., except for those on the main shopping street.
we've watched the city change from our 3 visits. It has a European feel and look. It still has some grim but is is a good city to walk around. go to the museums etc.
My second favorite is Istanbul. It is on the European side of the Bosphorus. Very different from any place we've visited. very old and beautifu, as well as chaotic. a very different city to visit and its beauty is in its history.

Hello,
Definitely Prague. Probably the most beautiful city I have seen. Gorgeous architecture wherever you turn, very walkable, wonderful people, great theater and food, reasonable prices.
Also, Krakow, which I realize is not the capital of Poland. But it is a wonderful city...the Old Town is very pretty, great city for walking, great Polish and Ukrainian food, even less expensive than Prague. Krakow is a convenient location for taking side trips, such as to the Salt Mines, Auschwitz, Black Madonna.

I strongly disagree that Madrid is the most boring. It's nightlife is unparalleled. I suppose it's boring if you're one of those fanny-packing tourists who only wants to visit 1000-year-old buildings, eat dinner at 7 and go to bed by 10.
