Which airlines should we use between Santorini and Athens?

Flying from Santorini to Athens in September 2020. Which are your favorite/most recommended airlines? Conversely, are there any we should avoid?

For such a short hop I can't imagine it makes much difference which airline you choose.

Take the flight which has the best timing for you, or in case you're on a low budget, take the cheapest.

We used Aegean. Very pleased.

Aegean or Olympic which is part of Aegean. Don't know if they're the cheapest but they are the best. Flying cheaply can mean more problems, but if willing to deal with them in order to save a few dollars, fine.

I’ve used Aegean and Olympic and were fine with both.

You are going to be in the air for about 45 minutes. How much difference can there be?

It is far too early to book for the end of next summer. Flight times etc. might very well change. I'd think May or June to make my purchase.

Good site for short-hop flights in Europe: www.skyscanner.com

Better still skip the flight and take a ferry. The classic way to travel to Greek Islands.

Aegean.

I would NOT take a ferry. Why would you? It takes too long.

[QUOTE=Southam;17011056] How much difference can there be?
I was asking in case there WAS a difference

<<I'd think May or June to make my purchase.>>
I will keep that in mind, thank you, and also for the link

BDKR - in theory, I'd love to take the ferry, but we have limited time (thanks for your comment Thin) and will also be going on a cruise a few days later so flying makes more sense this time.

Historytraveler - thank you, that's the info I was looking for. Reliability is key since we'll be meeting friends, and we don't want problems so we will watch for those 2 lines.

kwren, I added just about everything you could add to the ticket - including $4 each ofr Fast Track - and the total was $188 for two. We had bulkhead seats with lots of legroom. I'm spoiled by fast clearance through security via CLEAR in the states so thought the $4 for the fast line through security was a deal. We didn't need it - had plenty of time at the airport, but we didn't wait in line at security. I should have pre-purchased the checked baggage fee - because they are stringent about the weight allowed - but just paid at the counter. More than if I had pre-paid, but it was late at night and I just bought the ticket to get it done. I can't answer re the other airlines, but I liked Aegean and would use them again. We took the ferry back and it took most of the day. I would not do that again. Definitely fly. They are very strict with carryon size and weight and monitor at the gate. About a dozen people had to reorganize their carryons and/or check them for a fee.

On the day we flew Aegean from Athens to Kos they were celebrating a birthday ( airlines ) They served everyone on board champagne and gave every one a very nice piece of chocolate. Not a reason to choose an airline but they are rated one of the best which is a reason to choose them.

It’s not the 45 minutes in the air that matters, but other factors such as reliability, timeliness, and which terminal at Athens Airport the airline uses. Aegean Airlines/Olympic Air are based in Athens, and Aegean Airlines has been named the best regional airline in Europe. Domestic routes are mainly to Athens and back, so you don’t have to worry about delays from complicated itineraries with foreign airlines. Budget airlines, such as Ryan Air, use the satellite terminal, which is about 15 minutes from the main terminal.

You can book your flight with either Aegean or Olympic on https://en.aegeanair.com .

Thank you Heimdall...I knew there would be reasons besides price to choose some over others. Very helpful!

The most reliable ones are Aegean and Olympic Air. They are practically the same company.

I suggest Aegean/ Olympic. It should be less than an hour's flight.
