Where to stop between Trogir and Trieste

Anyone have any recommendations about where to spend 1 night between Trogir and Trieste? We don't want to have to drive too far the day we go to Trieste. Other places we will have seen in Croatia are Hvar, Dubrovnik, and probably Split while we're in Trogir. Right now we're planning to stay in Opatija, but I haven't seen many people talking about it. Thought about Rovinj, but it's a bit longer of a drive.

Hi
Rovinj is not that much further if you're driving. you will also be much more rewarded with Rovinj. It's a beautiful waterfront town. I think Rovinj is the nicest place we visited in Croatia.

I agree with Rovinj, and it will put you closer to Trieste.

drkate:....to see the best natural sight in all of the former Yuigoslavia, please stop overnight in Plitvice Lakes National Park..it is idescribably beautiful...it's about half way between Trogir and Trieste..look it up...very good lodgings available...16 lakes cascading one into the other...eye-popping!

Thank you so much, everyone. I had debated between Opatija and Rovinj, but was a little concerned about the extra driving time... On Viamichelin, It actually does not look like it adds that much. I'll think about Plitvice as another option.

If you like hiking (or lengthy wealks)..the trails through the cascades are phenomenal. Little boat takes you to one spot or another and off you go. We ran into snow last April and that made it that much more beautiful. The Hotel Jezero is quite nice..be sure to get a balcony room..rates are less than $100, excellent restaurant.
