Where to stay on the Romantic Road

We are planning to visit Germany in early June. We are going to drive the Romantic Road for part of the visit.

Where would you recommend staying near or in Rothenburg and Fussen?

Has anyone heard of or stayed at the castle hotel mid Franconia?

How about the Altstadhotel Zum Hechten in Fussen?

My choice would be Rothenburg.

It is so much different at night when all the buses are gone. Do see the town during the day when all of the shops are open, but the quiet nights are great.

A nice castle hotel with a very good restaurant near Rothenburg:

At the southern end of the RR, we stayed in the little village of Hohenschwangau where the castles are located. A nice pension within walking distance of the ticket center and transport to the castles:

Our double room with modern private bath, balcony view of Neuschwanstein directly overhead, free parking, and breakfast included cost 64 euro.

A good Bavarian restaurant just a couple of minutes drive from the pension is at Alpenhotel Meier:

We stayed in Fussen at the Hotel Hirsch after touring Neuschwanstein. Fussen is only a few minutes away from the castles. Hohenschwangau is basically a few hotels next to the ticket area for the castles. Depending on your preference, you might prefer Fussen as there is more to do in the evening. It is a nice town to walk in, with several restaurant choices. If your time is very limited, it probably would be simpler to stay in Hohenshwangau. Either way, it's definitely worth the visit, as is Rothenberg. I would also recommend a few hours in Bad Mergentheim, near Rothenburg.

ROTHENBURG:

Two very nice places: HOTEL REICHS KUTCENMEISTER OR HOTEL MARKUSTURM.

Click on my Traveldawg name and it will bring up quite a few things I have posted on these places and Germany.

Great area! Enjoy!

We stayed at Goldener Greifen Gasthof in Rothenburg (has web site with pictures). we had a very large room and I'd recommend it. We loved Roth. it was very quite at night. We drove to Oberammergau and stayed at Hotel Schilcherhof. Another nice local place with a lovely lady that runs the place. You don't mention how many nights you plan on staying...
