Where to stay near Munich during Oktoberfest 2010

We are a group of graduates of Munich American High School from the '60s. We are talking about a reunion in or near Munich during Oktoberfest 2010. We want to be close enough to train in to Oktoberfest at least one day. It would be great if we could find a gasthaus or a small hotel for the reunion. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

We stayed at Kastanienhof Hotel in Erding a couple of years ago. We were with our daughter's school orchestra on a tour. We stayed there due to early morning flight, but think it might fit your needs. Small hotel but very nice and unusally large rooms. Food was quite good. Less than a block from S-Bahn station.

Augsberg worked for us--reasonable train ride direct to the venue.

If you can get a room, I recommend the Hotel Wallis. It is near the train station and within walking distance of most tourist sights in Munich. The staff is very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast is quite good. I stayed there in the 80's and went back last year and found it was even betterthan before. You can't go wrong for the price.

Have much fun! I was a teacher at Heidelberg American High School from 1965 to 1970. I've attended a couple of reunions and had a great time seeing how everyone turned out.

I don't have to tell you to make reservations early.

Thanks for your great recommendations. I'll share them with the group to see what they think. Keep 'em coming if you have more.

Close to Munich Airport and near the S-bahn is Hotel Neuwirt
http://www.neuwirt-hallbergmoos.de

It's our "last night" hotel when we fly out of Munich. Maybe a bit out of the way (~40 minutes to Munich) but during Oktoberfest, it might still be reasonable. Very friendly staff, excellent food and reasonable.

We just stayed at the Hotel Torbrau in Munich a couple of weeks ago. We received excellent service and it is in a great location.
