Where to stay in St Moritz, convenient to Glacier Express?

Tentative plan is to arrive St Moritz on the Glacier Express 6/16, stay overnight, pick up a rental car early the next morning, drive to Soglio, stay overnight one night 6/17 in Soglio.
This should give us 2 days of walking in Soglio area.

Late afternoon 6/18 drive back to St Moritz, return rental car, stay overnight St Moritz and 6/19 take the Glacier Express back to Zermatt.

Where to stay in St Moritz? It doesn't have to be "right next" to the train station, I assume some hotels will pick you up or send a taxi. Not really interested in seeing St Moritz that much. It would be nice to have a good restaurant in hotel or one close by that is easy to walk to.

Any ideas?

As I recall there aren't many hotels right next to that station...many are up the hill from the station..you can get a taxi at the station easily enough.

the last time I stayed in St. Mortiz i ended up at the Albana with all those interesting suits of armor on the stair landings...there are numerous places..some great big ones which might be closed for the season...am sure others will chime in and don;t be surprised if somebody says DON'T STAY in St. Mortiz AT ALL since the "town' itself seems a little sterile and I would agree with that.

Good luck.

I was in that area about two years ago. Ingo was very helpful and suggested two hotels right near the train station. One is called La Margna and the other is cheaper and called Bellaval.

You can read more suggestions here:

I stayed in Eden Garni, which does involve going up a hill. It was slightly strenuous -- more so for my mom.

You can read my report here:

I thought St. Moritz was fine for me actually. There was a lot to do in the area!

Why did you pick Eden Garni? It's quite a lot more than the Bellaval.

Do you want to rent a car just to get to Soglio? it is at the end of a spur road anyway and renting a car just for those 25 km there and back sounds like wasted money. There are good post bus connections to Soglio.

I forget why exactly. I probably wanted something nicer than Bellaval but less expensive than La Margna, and I probably saw some good reviews for Eden Garni.

Eden Garni was fine. I think there are hotels that are even further up if I recall. I'm pretty sure I took this photo from the hotel room:

Now that I think about it, there could be a short-cut staircase of some sort that you should look for if you end up at Eden Garni. I remember asking someone in French how to get up (which is probably why I remember this still).

Hi 111op!

Wrenwood, as I said in my post on your other thread, I'd recommend not to stay in St. Moritz itself (and I commented on the car rental and one-nighters as well).

The Bellaval is a fine option if you plan to stay just one night. However, it doesn't cost much more time to take a bus further to Silvaplana or Sils which are both much more charming. Or hop off the Glacier Express earlier, in Samedan or Celerina. (Posthotel Bodenhaus right next to the train station in the latter is ok). Or change trains in Samedan for Pontresina with plenty of options to stay.

I.

Well there are two that Ingo mentioned. That seems adequate for a town of that size.

Oh hey, Ingo! (Our messages crossed -- we were both posting at the same time.)
