If you're over the age of 25, I wouldn't stay near the Campo De' Fiori area. It is a huge hangout for young people at night and can get quite noisy.

We recently stayed at the Mecenate Palace (across the street from Santa Maria Maggiore. It was delightful, convenient, good breakfast on lovely roof terrace and excellent service. On a previous visit we stayed at the Ranieri, a three-star, well run and attractive too on a more modest scale.

Hi

We stayed at the Hotel Olympic on Via Properzio (near the Vatican) and it was about $125 a night w/bath. It was really nice and very clean. I think it had a/c. Hope you have good luck.

Just came back from Rome 2 days ago. We stayed at Hotel Oceania (Hotel OCEANIA, Via Firenze, 38 )- the hotel is very nice - family-run with English-speaking staff, modern - renovated with everything you need and even free internet access (for the ones that need it during vacation . The cost was $135/night
