Where to stay in Lisbon

We are visiting Lisbon in Oct. for 5 nights. Is it better to stay at the river end or half way between there and Rossio?

Thanks

We stayed in the Baixa area - very central for all that we wanted to see and do.

Not sure what you mean by the river end. If I could afford it I would stay at the Avenida Palace. Instead I stay in a pension nearby.

YES to the Avenida Palace, if it's in your budget. It's awesome.

Avenida Palace is a great option, but for me, the most important is to stay in the city center.

Sorry to use the thread but we found an appartment that seems to be between Rossio and Biaxa-Chiado stations, just beside Elevador de Santa Justa.
Is it a good location ?

IF you were to look at a map, you would see that the Elevador is mere 400 meters from the Avenida Palace.

You are correct, thursdaysd. The Avenida Palace is next to Rossio Station, directly across from the Square. You don't get much more central than that.

What do you think of a location near the National Theater? We have booked Garden Rooftop on Costa do Castelo but we are well within the cancellation period. The cost is about 110 euros/night--a lot less than the Avenida Palace but it's right for us.

If that is at Costa do Castelo 60 it is not "near" the National Theater, and personally, I prefer to sleep on the flat. What does the place say about how to get there?
