Sounds fine. There is an important holiday there which raises hotel rates, so watch out for that (I think that may be last week in September, I forget but deliberately scheduled my trip to Barcelona in October for the 2nd or 3rd week due to that).
Don't stay near the beach, it's not convenient.

<<We'll be going in September.
Any other suggestions for a mid-priced, centrally located hotel?
(Hotel Constanza sound nice - and doesn't cost a fortune!)>>
Start your own thread and you'll get more attention. And tell everyone what the heck a "mid-priced" hotel is in $ or Euros.

Banys Orientals could be a good option, in the medieval and lively Born area, close to "everything", 105€/night. http://www.hotelbanysorientals.com/en/
About the area, very important for Catalan identity: http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...s/el-born.html

Many excellent tapas bars and restaurants around here, but Tapeo is a new favourite from a visit a few weeks ago. Terrific place, make reservations, sit along the bar and enjoy! http://www.tapeoborn.cat/

... and Hotel Banys Orientals is only a ten-fifteen minutes walk from the great and fun Barceloneta beach. Also recommend the Barceloneta district, just inland from the beach: http://www.theguardian.com/travel/20...taurants-spain

For better value at either the Hotel Arts or the Mandarin Oriental, check out the Virtuoso amenities you can get at the same regular best available rate - http://tinyurl.com/plwr2nk

My family enjoyed our stay at Hotel Colon last summer. It faces the cathedral and is in walking distance to many of the attractions. The hotel is lovely, with a very friendly staff. Ask for a room on the higher floors with a view of the cathedral--gorgeous at night!
