where to stay edinburgh

In March, I'll be attending a festival at the Corn Exchange. I've never been to Edinburgh before, so have no idea what part of town that's in. From what little I've been able to glean, it's not very close to the center of town but I could be wrong about that. I'd like to stay someplace convenient to major sites, so if that means not close to the Corn Exchange, that's okay. I'm very comfortable walking a mile or three to get to some sites, but it would nice to be convenient to lots of things. I'm not sure how much I need to spend but I'd like someplace a bit upmarket (but not sky high).

Any recommendations for parts of town to stay in and specific hotels are welcome.

Thanks.

Put Corn Exchange in Google and not only will it show you the map -- you would know where it is in relation to the city centre.

You need to give us some sort of Idea -- we don't know what you think is up market or sky high.

If you will have any free time away from the conference - Id stay in the very centre of town since Slateford station is adjacent to the Corn Exchange and it is a 10 minute train ride. Either near Princes Street/Waverly station or nearby just up the hill in Old Town

We stayed at the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor in the westend. It was a better value, imho. Also, it is practically right across the street from the Haymarket station. It would be a short ride down to Slateford station.

My family and I (total of 4) were in Edinburgh in June of '18 and we stayed at an Airbnb that was perfect for us. We talked to a all of the local attractions and only used a car to go to the Highlands.

The Airbnb link is https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/23875275?s=51. I hope this helps.
