Where to stay during Bregenzer Festspiele in Bregenz, Austria

Hello, planning to see The Magic Flute at the magic Bregenzer Festspiele (Bregenz, Austria) this summer. I have been advised not to stay in Bregenz itself (high prices) but to look elsewhere a little further up (or down) the lake shore. Any tips or advice???
Vielen dank!

Did you check the prices of hotels and pensions at Bregenz? They aren't that high.
Hotel Ibis for example is about 10 years old and close to Seebuehne and Festspielhaus.
Otherwise check Lindau: direct boat back after the end of the performance, from a pier close to the Seebuehne.
There are usually also special trains leaving half an hour after the performacne or so in direction of Dornbirn - Hohenems, stopping at all places.

Thank you very much for this advice, neckervd. However, during our business travels we spent a lot of time in business like hotels such as Ibis. Therefore we are hoping to stay somewhere with a bit more local and personal atmosphere (no offense please Ibis
Any other tips e.g. nice restaurants are of course most welcome!
