Can highly recommend Lisbon as a base - a great combination of old and new, a rich cultural (and culinary) experience, and a perfect access point to the countryside or the sea. Besides spending time in the city, suggest you rent a car and head both north and south - north toward and beyond the village of Cascais, always along the coast which is fantastic (cliffs, rolling Atlantic, some beach); and then, south toward Setubal, Sesimbra and other little fishing villages below, and more flat expansive beaches. Lisbon area doesn't have the touristic connotations of the south or "Algarve" (though am sure there are some nice spots down there).

Hi. I start by reccomending you a quick look at my URL, so that you can find some basic answers to basic questions. Now, for destinations here. Yes Lisbon is nice and worths a couple of days. As for a holiday destination near the sea, with great food and reasonable prices, I suggest Lagos in the Algarve.<BR>Cheers
