Algarve

We are 2 young "50ish" that will be staying a week in Lisbon. We would like to add on a beach destination mainly for the relaxation. We love little villages and old fishing villages. no nightlife necessary. Just like to wander. We will have a car and about 4 days. Any help on a city and accomodation would be greatly appreciated. I promise not to wear a bikini.

We always count on you guys for guidance.

Well. You do not have to go to the Algarve for beach time near Lisbon. Not that there is anything wrong with that location.
But there are lovely beaches North of Lisbon. Google "Silver Coast" for one suggestion.

Lagos should appeal to you. It is about a 3.5 hour drive from Lisbon and should not be too busy.

Hi! In the Algarve, Tavira and Lagos are very nice.
Near Lisbon, Cascais and Sesimbra.
In Alentejo coast you have Vila Nova de Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar, both very cozy, great food, very nice beach. These are my very best spots in Portugal. There's so many private small beach that sometimes in the morning you'll be by your own. So undiscovered by tourists mainly because there's no big hotel chains, so they are a bit off the radar.

North of Lisbon, Ericeira and Peniche are great.

I loved Cascais! Much better than Lisbon proper, IMO.

We loved Vila Nova de Milfontes. We also loved Salir do Porto. I think Salir has the larger and nicer beach area. Milfontes is quite some distance from where you will be. Salir is closer to you and Nazare, Obidos and environs.

You might also look at Salema, quiet, near Lagos and just east of Ponta de Sagres. It's a 3hr+ drive from Lisbon.

You guys are the best. Since we are short on time we will make it somewhere like Cascais or Estoril. I promise not to wear a string bikini. Yikes. Anyone have a preference on where to stay, prefer an apartment in Cascais or Estoril' Just want some lively walking action and good food. Prmosie to write a great trip report. Which scity is your preferance?

Cascais--look at the places just outside Cascais on the rugged coast west of town named " guincho".
