We also went to the two spa towns of Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazne. The colonades are lovely and vary in archtectural types. Lovely grounds and walking areas. Good shopping. Old world wonderful, elegant pampering.

While in Cesky Krumlov we took day trips to Telc in Moravia with a delightful castle, Trebon, another nice little castle town and to Hluboka nad Vlatou, a castle just outside of Cesky Budajovice that is modeled on Windor castle.

We also stopped in Kutna Hora to see the cathedral there on our way to Cesky Krumlov. All of these places were worth the visits we made to them. And just driving within the countryside is relaxing and lovely. When I returned from our trip to the Czech Republic this spring I did an extensive trip report entitled Czech Republic Trip Report. Do a search on those words to obtain it. I hope you find it helpful. If you read it, you will know that I am a very big recommender of the Czech Republic. I hope you go and that you enjoy it as much as we did.

I also went to the spa town of Karlovy Vary and found it to be lovely (although all the guides say Cesky Krumlov is much more beautiful). If you are into the healing "powers" of hot springs, this is a nice stop as you can sample water from almost all of the springs....while you are at it, eat a spa wafer or two. A 1-hour massage there is very cheap, too!

My favourite place next in line to Prague is Hradec Kralove. There are literally no tourists there and the old town square is huge.(pedestrian only) I do all my shopping there as the prices are way less than in Prague especially for Bata shoes and linens. The people are friendly and I usually spend one night there staying at the pension vezy right in the old town square which is new and very modern. Proprietor is very friendly and helpful but doesnt speak english though. I love staying there as i can hear the church bells next door every half hour and i know i'm in europe now!
