Mongolia. I spent a week in Ulaanbaatar around 7 years ago and it was sparse and poor but beautiful. Also, just about every part of China before it all becomes to modernized like Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai. <BR><BR>Also - Lisbon and other parts of Portugal. They are building so much there at such great speeds when I was back there last year I hardly recognized it and I had lived there for many years in the early 90's. <BR><BR>I'm sure there are lots more places out there that are also changing rapidly....

Cuba:<BR><BR>I do not know where you have staied while in Cuba. Sure, Cay Largo and Varadero are choked with tiourism, as well as some areas of La Havana and Santiago De Cuba, but the inner part of the island is just beautiful and virgin. And, sure the island is poor: it has been strangled by the bloqueo for decades and twelve years ago it even lost the support of Comecon, but the bloqueo did nothing to relieve the island of the very disputable leadership of Fidel Castro and it has only berated the population.

Hi<BR>How about the Czech Rep. and Slovakia. Avoid Prague if your looking for areas less touristed. Areas such as Kutna Hora, Telc and even Cesky Krumlov, though it is more heavily touristed are great sites. Hungary outside of Budapest in places like Eger and that area are pretty much less touristy. The Tatras in Slovakia were nice also. This year we are planning to go to Pecs in Hungary and then drive to Romania to see what we can in the timme we have to visit. I'm sure there are other area also especially in central/eastern europe. I'm already thinking Bulgaria for next year.<BR>alan

Cuba is really popular with Canadian tourists. I went there about 23 years ago and there were lots of Canadians going then. It's mostly all inclusive type resorts that people visit, although people spend time in Havana. <BR><BR>Interesting question, though. I wish that I had gone to Santorini when I visited Greece in 1976. When I was there in 2000, I thought it was beautiful, but it didn't appeal to me that much. We also went to Costa Rica several years ago. There were tourists, for sure, but it's become more and more popular since then.

Alan<BR>Pec hungary is a place you don't often see as a travel destination. Why are you going? Tell me please what you know about it. It is someplace that we want to go to someday because my father-in-law was born, baptised, and lived there before coming to this country. We want to find the church where he was baptised. I am very interested in any info regarding the area that you can share.

I vote for Cuba, too. Of course it is poor, but it has remarkable charm. It is like a huge, run down outdoor museum. And there were no masses of tourists where I was last year (southern coast, Pinar del Rio area and Santiago). Well, in Habana Vieja, yes, but I still enjoyed it very much. And they are doing good work in restauring it with piety, they are just lacking money.<BR><BR>Bulgaria is a good candidate, too. I don´t mean the Black Sea coast, but rather the inland and mountain region.
