Where to Go?

My husband and I are doing a Habitat for Humanity Build in Hungary from July 20-Aug 4 and are trying to decide where to go for a couple of weeks after. Since we have done all of our trips in May and June and mostly in Western Europe, we haven't experienced July/ August or Central/Eastern Europe at all. We will be building close to the Croatian border but will begin and end our work in Budapest. We don't necessarily want to stay in Hungary after the 4th.
Any suggestions?

It will be high season no matter where you go...but Slovenia and Croatia are wonderful places to go after Hungary. It will be busy so you will need to book a place. Or I have friends who have even gone to Bulgaria to some of the new spas that have opened there..Enjoy.

Thank you very much for the suggestions, gregeva1. I gave up on getting any response since I had pressed "post" before changing my rather murky title. We will be in Europe from July 19-August 20. After our Habitat build ends on Aug 3rd, we're thinking about Novi Sad and Belgrade in Serbia, Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina , Budva in Montenegro, and Dubrovnik before returning to Budapest. Slovenia also sounds like a possibility. We like music, museums, art, walking/hiking (5-6 hrs, not days) and trying different types of local food. Any suggestions for must sees, activities, or restaurants?

I haven't been, but am plannning some of your locations this summer. Be careful about the racing week in Budapest (end of July, first of August)...accomodations increase accordingly.

My daughter and I are flying into Budapest on July 11, leaving for Novi Sad on July 15 for a 2 week ballet intensive and then flying to London for 3 days before returning. I can tell you more about Serbia at that point, but it probably won't do you any good at that point. I hope you get some replies so I can look at them too!

I have heard Dubrovnik is absolutely wonderful btw.

Katt: What types of activities do you like to do? I would repost the question with specific things that interest you and the places you have mentioned. I am by no means an expert yet there are tons of people on this board who have so much experience that I think you will get a super long list. Have a great time in Hungary and the rest of central europe ( I too still think of it as eastern Europe).
