Currently in Rome and I've got paper currency from various countries that I need to change for Euros. I went to Deutche Bank and was told that none of the banks in the neighborhood change cash anymore "for reasons of security." So I was wondering if anyone can recommend a place I can go, bank or otherwise, and get a good exchange rate? Thanks.

There are many places where you can change your money. Unfortunately ad you noticed, banks do not change it.
There is one money change, in Via Nazionale, 19 that is called "best&fast change", then even in Via del Corso, or near Termini train station you can find many.

Banco Di Roma my fav biggest I can find.

I have had no problems changing money big sums with them.

Changers do small sums avoid they will clip 30-25% usually.

Changers are the biggest scammers in europe...

You can find cambios that will change bills - no coins - but they will generally give you a terrible rate of exchange. And often they will have a minimum fee - so if the amounts you have are small - I would consider them souvenirs.

If you are talking about small bills, there are charitable agencies at airports that will take them, and your coins, off your hands.

LOL pocket change to keep as a souvenir or throw in the UNICEF envelope? The key word was "need." As in "need euros to pay the rent." Thanks for the tips about the bank and cambio, will check into them.

yeah, i too definitely found the cambios to be too pricy out there..

on a different topic, would anyone know whats the best bus/train route to take heading to ROME from Monsummano ..i have had some suggestions but am not sure..

Looks like Montecatini (has more than one station) is the closest train stop to Monsummano.

Just wanted to follow up on this - I can reasonably conclude, after pounding the pavement across Rome, that changing cash in banks (including Banca di Roma) is a thing of the past. Ended up using the exchange place in Termini. My advice is to negotiate - the first offer they give you is not necessarily their best and final.
