where in Mykonos...

I've got my Athens and Santorini hotels arranged - just trying to decide where in Mykonos.

Looks to have a great view of the town though a bit outside and above town.

Good location but seems a tad pedantic

Nice homey touches - very affordable - but a bit out side of town (they say 10 minute walk or 3e taxi) - the room I'm interested has view of town and port.

If anyone has stayed at any of these places - your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say as I have not been to Mykonos but I am curious where you are staying in Santorini. I am thinking of going again (did a package from Dublin last time awful apt!) and I want to find a place to stay on Santorini. Any help is appreciated. Oh and I like the look of the 3rd one!

We stayed at the Poseidon Hotel a number of years ago. The best thing was the location, close to the shops and restaurants of Mykonos town. We had a room nearest the sea and had a great seaview from the balcony, though not from the room itself. I would definitely want a balcony and seaview, not sure if all rooms have that. The rooms are built around the pool area so some could be noisy I suppose. The pool area was nice. It was fine, nothing to rave over but OK.

The Vencia is a very good hotel and pleases many people who use it. You need to know that it is surrounded by one of our very busy roads on each of its building sides that continues to Ano Mera.

This is a diversion of Aghios Ioannou which is the main and noisy road that carries much traffic behind the town. The hotel is very elevated which will give it great views but it could be difficult for some people who need to walk on the road on busy and hot days. It is not suitable for any guest who has mobility problems. There is a medical clinic a few minutes from the hotel. In hot summer weather it is good to have the clinic there!

The Posieden is also a good hotel and I feel in a better location close to Megali Ammos beach and the road to Ornos. Great views and a small walk to town from this hotel. It is known to have many return guests each year.

The Petassos district here is only a few minutes walking up from town. I do not know these apartments you mention but this is the best location. From Petassos it is only a 5 minute walk to town. You would not need a taxi. I am confused why they say 10-minute walk or use of a taxi. Perhaps they are just outside Petassos district but prefer to say they are not.

thanks for the comments and thoughts - it has helped me make a decision. Pretty sure I'm going with the Rania Apartments - at 65 e a night for a king bed and view of the port I can endure a 10 minute walk.

SiobhanP - in Santorini I'm staying at Hotel Galini

places in Oia were too expensive, in light of the shrinking weak anemic dollar
