Heavens- for a first trip I think you have it right- the 6th near the 7th or 7th near the 6th..there is a hotel that I have always wanted to stay in but haven't that I think you should look into..it is around the corner from where I used to live (that is why I never stayed there). It is at least from the neighborhood (in my very biased opinion!!) and its outside appearance untimately Parisien..it is Hotel Duc du Saint simon..there is a great resto which is part of the hotel which I can recommend. Please look the hotel up.

We are returning to the du Danube , on rue Jacob,in November for about the 12th time in the last few years. We love the location, the staff has never been anything other than most pleasant to us and our rooms have always been large and spotless.

I'm not disputing that the Danube's staff can be welcoming and there are nice rooms. We just were unlucky on both counts unfortunately. If you're a regular visitor I'm glad you found a hotel you like to return to. Our experience soured us on the hotel and just wanted to say that not everyone feels the same about this hotel.

Jody's room looks light, airy, and the bathroom looks very nice and renovated. Our room was the pink colored apartment shown on the hotel's site. Photos of the rooms are posted at Trip Advisor if you click on the traveler's candid photos link. Our rooms are the last two photos in the set of 10 on the first page. The rooms were very dark especially the second room. Sorry I didn't have a photo of the bathroom, but it was gloomy and not as modernized as the one Jody had.
Perhaps if you reserve a twin or double and a streetside room these are better for light.

I did post a trip report on our visit last April. We did stay at the St. Germain des Pres and absolutely loved it. The staff spoke English, which was very helpful to us. They were unbelievably nice and helpful. Our first room was very nice. After we returned from Normandy they upgraded us to a suite which was larger. Very big marble bathroom. They had good beds and pillows and we wound up sleeping very well.
The hotel had wifi and a breakfast for 10E. The location was the best. So many shops, cafes and stores nearby. We would strike out in all directions from our hotel for walks and it seemed to be in the middle of everything. And just four blocks from the Siene. We would highly recommend this hotel and gladly stay again.
