When should I make reservations for Sept. trip to Germany?
I have tickets into Frankfurt on Sept. 20 and out of Zurich on October 4th. We will travel from Frankfurt down the Romantic Road to Munich, then to Salzburg, to Fussen, and then to Zurich, with other stops along the way. I know I am in the Oktoberfest time, so I will plan to make reservations ahead. Should I start now or do I still have a few weeks before that is necessary? Thanks. PJK

Definitely make a reservation now if you have found places you'd like to stay. If you wait too long you will be disappointed. Every reservation site I've visited gives you enough cancellation time if you find another place you like better.

Agree with the others. You'll get better rates now and it's more likely that the rooms won't all be booked. Try and reserve as many hotels as you can because trying to find a place when you're there is difficult and time-consuming, especially if you do it in more than one city (speaking from experience).

I would start now, especially if you are planning to stay IN Munich. I'm not saying there wonlt be anything left but many of the hotels book up months ahead for the Oktoberfest period. Be aware that prices for Munich hotels will be higher.

Thank you for the responses. I will get on this project this weekend. I did not intentionally schedule us for Oktoberfest. I thought I was planning for a low time, so now I am a bit disappointed to think there will be an overload of tourists during this time. I might still be able to change dates. Any opinions? Will the crowds be huge? PJK
