Does anyone know of a company that rents wheelchairs in Paris?

"Googling" turned up this excellent resource for wheelchair users in Paris.
Buried in the information is a website for wheelchair repairs and rentals, try it...
http://www.icanonline.net/news/fullp...ations#repairs

Tout le Confort de Malade
They rent wheelchairs weekly or monthly, and offer wheelchair repair.
193 rue Lecourbe
75015 Paris
48-42-54-95

TLAM They rent wheelchairs weekly or monthly, and offer wheelchair repair.
1, rue Mazagran
75009 Paris
46-31-63-19

Hygiène Service They rent wheelchairs weekly or monthly, and offer wheelchair repair. They also offer delivery.
92-94, rue du Mont-Cenis
75018 Paris
42-64-23-62

Also, is it not possible or better to travel with a wheelchair, one that can be collapsed and checked at the gate before boarding? I'm not experienced in this matter at all, just thinking of how to eliminate the uncertainty...

You may want to consider contacting the concierge of your hotel. He/she should have info on availability - and reliabillity of local vendors. And might a scooter rather than a wheelchair be an option?

Travelnut: Thanks for all the information. I'll print your message and bring it with me to Paris.

Nytraveler: If you have any information on renting a scooter, please let me know. The idea is appealing because then my husband wouldn't need to push me around. I'm concerned, however, about a scooter being too big for European elevators, etc.

You might also want to have a look at the Traveling Impaired forum section of the bonjourparis.com web site. There's a host of useful information, much of it from a disabled woman who lived in Paris for two years and learned to navigate the city in several senses of the word.

I traveled to Paris 2 years ago with my brother, who is completely wheelchair bound, and he took his own chair, which was checked at the gate. I'm not sure I would recommend a scooter, as Paris is not, in general, very wheelchair friendly. We rented an apartment on the ground floor, and had a car for transport. We hired a guide for 3 days to assist us, and it made all the difference in the world!

The company on the link below offers wheelchair rental delivered to your hotel in Paris (they will not deliver to private addresses/apartment rentals):

One to three days - 90 Euros
Four to Six Days - 115 Euros
Seven to Twelve days - 140 Euros

You should generally be able to rent a wheelchair through a large pharmacy. Our small one here in the county can get one quickly if needed, and I suspect Paris would be even faster.

The wheelchair arrived as required - although payment could only be made over the phone.

The actual supplier of the wheelchair we hired was MediMad who have a wheelchair rental site here:
