You're welcome, ssander. I'm glad I came across it for all our sakes.

I am glad to know I am not alone. I already know that I will leave Paris again still not having gotten to it all!

I agree with Michael. I spent a lot of time in those three passages. Great stores, I DO like to shop so shoot me, some little places to eat and a patisserie and so on.

I have some fun posters and other things from the passages and also there is a cool book store at the end of Passage Jouffroy. I'm hoping to hit some of the others my next trip.

I have just had some time to read more about Verdeau and Jouffroy....looks very nice. I am putting together a plan for the day and think I will end at rue de Martyr.

An addition to the discussion of the passages, today I received a handy-sized guide, 'The Covered Passages of Paris', ordered from Amazon, which includes a map on the inside cover and is beautifully illustrated throughout. While the title shown is in French, it is, as it promises, in English - 'Paris et ses passages couverts' (version anglaise).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/275..._detailpages00

I look forward to test-driving it next month.

We stumbled on to the Galerie Vivienne the first time we were in Paris in 1999 while wandering on our first visit to Paris. We saw someone walking out and it looked interesting. Wow, is it beautiful. We had lunch at A Priori The. Discovered both later in a guide book.

Great thread, thanks Denisea!

Kerouac, I'm waiting for the day that you include a selfie in one of your photo collections that you post

Just curious- has anyone been inside M & G Segas (Galerie Fayet)in Passages Jouffroy... I'm wondering what the price range is for the walking canes? Seems like a great idea for a unique souvenir (but not if each one costs 1000 Euros!).

@powhatangal, we toured some of the passages with a Paris Greeter, Joel, on a horrid weather day in October. It was very interesting. If you have Joel you're in for a treat.

I wrote about it here.

My favorite shop was the specialty umbrella shop which does repairs. He said is the last one in Paris.

I had my tour of the covered passages last week with Martine of Paris Greeters. What a treat! We met at the Palais Royale metro stop. First stop was the Galerie Vivienne and last stop was the Galerie vero-Dodat and visited other passages in between.

Martine was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed visiting some of the unique stores - one with ribbons, buttons, and other notions; another one a dépôt-vente de prêt-à-porter (consignment).

Nola77382: enjoyed your blog of your Paris Greeters tour!

I was wondering how to get through the passages, let alone find them. Great post and the walking tour sounds like a good idea

You just walk through them. They are lined with shops...essentially early versions of malls, I suppose. Take a look at MmePerdu's post from Feb 14 for a PDF guide you can download to learn about how to get there.

You can also Google the passage name and get directions.
