For Neal: <BR>The old Varsity that was at College Ave and Broad is no longer there as you surmised. It left us several years ago; the site is now occupied by a Chinese quick spot that specializes in monosodium glutamate. There is a lineal descendant Varsity located at Broad and Milledge. It has, as near as I can tell, the same characteristics as the old down town establishment. It is well off of my path, so I rarely go there. But if you want gourmet food, laden with all that makes Southern cooking infamous, I think you could drop in and easily get your cholesterol and sodium fix. <BR>One burger or hot dog with fries and you should have a 6 month supply. <BR>I think Topper would love their chile-slopped corn dogs with a double load of onion rings topped off with a super large chocolate frostie. <BR>Where else, except in free speeching America, could a thread that started with a nuisance end up talking about one of the finest gourmet eateries this side of the Middle Oconee River? <BR>Now, if we can just keep Topper from eating the stick the corn dog comes on!! <BR>My guess is that his culinary preferences are like those of my son's dog: she eats paper napkins.

GPTV in the Athens-Atlanta area ran two old Thin Man movies just tonight, with Myrna Loy and Donna Reed. The dog was called Asta. <BR> <BR>And yep, old Soupy could be funny. <BR>Cripes, I remember Captain Kangaroo and Dancing Bear. Asta was the dog in the Thin Man, the movie series starred William Powell as Nick Charles, and Myrna as his lovely wife, Nora. The series was based on the novel by Dashiell Hammett. There was a TV series with the same characters (and wire-haired terrier as Asta): Peter Lawford was Nick, Phyllis Kirk was Nora.
