I know I said I swore off limericks, but after seeing Helen's 3:46 p.m. post, I was in awe. Thus, while technically keeping my word....

Higgledy piggledy Helen or HellieF
Fodor's best writer, her wisdom's a pearl;
Knows how to use "soi disant" with
Alacrity
What did we do to deserve such a girl?

and, much weaker...

Ghostily postily Cosmo G. Topper
Saw Marian, George, and a hound in a fog
Said Cos' to Neal:
"Your name's got appeal
Just don't let some kid think he's named for a dog.

Oh, Peter Graves was on "Fury." Kirby Grant was "Sky King."

And it was "The Gayle Storm Show," which followed "The Bob Cummings Show" with Zazu Pitts as "Schultzie."

(This thread should prob'ly change places w/ice cream thread on USA forum.)

Spanky: Princess Summerfallwinterspring was much prettier as a human than as the wooden marionette they made her after Judy Tyler (actress) got pregnant. And "Private Secretary" starred Ann Sothern.

Cheryl et al: "My Little Margie" preceded the Gayle Storm Show.

1. (5 pts.) What actor on Our Miss Brooks went on to fame on Beverley Hillbillies?

2. (15 pts.)Who were Asta, Cleo, and Falla? Extra credit to Europeans who get the last one.

Neal -- I'm blushing.

David -- thanks for taking the time to put ANZAC Day in context. Hope my earlier posts weren't too flippant. As you can probably tell, I had no idea what the ANZAC posting was about. In any case, thanks to you and others, now I know.

OK, back to work, my boss lurks on this Forum. Hi, mwg!

Didn't Ann B Davis play Bob Cummings secretary/assistant (same woman from Brady Bunch)? And wasn't Bob, in real life, one of the first "health nuts", taking dozens of vitamins and extolling the virtues of exercise and good nutrition? Isn't he dead?

I thought Ann B Davis was Schultzie! ...or maybe I was getting confused watching too much TV in my childhood. That's why my Dad used to regularly take out the tubes and say that the TV was broken..and then it would remain broken for about 2-3 months until he got another "tube". geez, remember tubes? oops, I guess that's why they call it the "tube".

Yep, it was Ann B. Davis on The Bob Cummings Show (aka "Love That Bob") and Zazu Pitts on "The Gayle Storm Show." (Remember, this is the same advice giver who mixes up Patras and Napflio, thereby dissuading impressionable travelers from enjoying one of Greece's nicest cities).

And Bob Cummings is going strong at 93.

Wasn't Cleo on "Mr. Peepers?"

How 'bout this one? It was on in early-mid afternoon on weekdays, so I only was able to watch it when I was sick (which was often in grade school)...called The Big Pay Off. Bess Myerson was the hostess, forget the name of the host. Contestants won a series of ever-nicer sets of clothes, until....ta da...they got a chance to win a mink coat. I LOVED that show! (guilty secret)

Sorry, Neal, but according to the internet movie data base (www.imdb.com), Martha is right. Bob Cummings died in 1990 at the age of 82.

I think Judy's right re
pelling of Gale Storm's name. Cleo was a Senator's dog on "The People's Choice," and she talked to the camera, with heavy irony. (I think my bassethound Daphne did, too.) Does anyone recognize the closing line, "Elizabeth

I think Topper lost an Arkansas Hog Calling Contest. So now he(?) is trying to make his voice heard over Internet.
Unfortunately, his written vocabulary is limited to one word.
I am not sure I buy the attention getting interpretation. We don't really know who Topper is do we? Most attention grabbers do not operate incognito or anonymously; they want you to know who they are. I trust his/her/its activity will soon bottom out.
Has anybody discerned a pattern to the activity? I can not figure one.
