What's with topper?

Why is topper/[email protected] sending messages up when they haven't fallen very far to begin with? I could see doing it for messages that get buried over a weekend, but I find this indiscriminate topping annoying.

Martha, I've been pondering the same question. I have a couple of theories, having to do with control issues. And I have to admit, it's a powerful feeling to push "submit" and have the results visible for all the world to see -- just like I'm about to do right now... Whee!

Martha, I've been pondering the same question. I have a couple of theories, having to do with control issues. I imagine someone who wants to participate, but has nothing to add at the moment. It's harmless, I reckon. And I have to admit, it's a powerful feeling to push "submit" and have the results visible for all the world to see -- just like I'm about to do right now... Whee!

Well no, it's not me for a start.

It's classic attention grabbing by someone, I would wager, who has been ignored on this forum in the past.

There's always someone sad enough to try this minor disruption.

Tony, I would never have thought it was you. Not nearly clever enough

The thing is, how can you get attention, if no one know's who you are? I think topper is not necessarily trying to move things up, but may be trying to bury something. On at least one occasion I'm pretty sure the idea was to push a specific entry out of the top 50.

Beth you may have a point but surely placing a posting in the 'hot 50' up to the top wouldn't push anything out?

Just a thought.

Nope, it wouldn't. But if there was something in the middle or at the bottom, that you wanted to bury for whatever reason, if you posted "To the top" in 50 other messages, then the one you wanted out of eyesight goes into the "next 50 messages area.
I can't figure out what someone would want to bury though.

Hmmm. I always thought all those Toppers and Uppitys were rather jolly, like bubbles rising to the surface.
At first, I thought that Topper just was shy, or had a limited vocabulary. Then I realized that she must be exhausted for having to constantly coach and prompt her wooded husband, Vice President Gore. After all, she does have to be careful in public lest her past career as a militant pro-censorship activist be brought to the surface.

Oh wait.. that's TIPPER. Never Mind.

That clever Ted Turner, colorizing Topper! The first colorized movie, wasn't it? Personally, I prefer balck & white.
Since some of the topics (s)he is doin this to are ones I am interested in I find it very irritating. It keeps me on-line longer than I should be (Aha! Maybe it's the phone company!) and I wait with bated breath to see what words of wisdom have been added ....only to find an exclamation mark. And that's nothing to the exclamation that follows!!

Ghost friends were Mary and George I think. But what was the name of the Saint Bernard?
