went to julian tolousa (sp?) for the first time in Jan, and loved it. Great steak, white asparagus, jamon and chirizo. Also have a outstanding wine list. It great for a sat/sun afternoon long meal, we were there for over 3 hours, the free pacharon is especially nice.

Sorry about that.

Rachele, I drink Mahou on tap when we're over there, for sure. I don't recall seeing it here.

Natjgc, Hotel Emperador is on Gran Via and we thought it was a great place to stay. The roof top pool is a rarity in Madrid and the rooms are large by European standards and comfortable.
I'm 99% sure there are hair dryers. It is in walking distance from some pretty good nightlife spots and a great little ceramics seller (ask the concierge), though the shop is a little pricey.

Molloy95, thanks for the link. I'll read the article today.
I'll be running with the bulls for the second time.
We've had some great experiences in Spain for which Maribel was directly responsible. Her guidance directed us to Laguardia last year and we are certain to return this July. We fell in love with that town.

By the way, one of my top priorities when traveling to Spain is to seek out the Caramelo brand of clothing.
Not sold in the states, but fits well and looks great.

Ciaony,

How far is the train station from the Hotel Emperador? We want to take the
AVE train to Toledo as a side trip.
Thanks,
Natjgc

I seem to remember it being about a €3-€4 cab ride.
I'm not certain.
I hear Toledo is magnificent.

natjgc, there's no AVE train to Toledo.
But Toledo is near from Madrid, you have to take a Cercanias (short distances trains) which put you in Toledo in less than 2 hours and are very frequent (lots of trains every day).

Hi ciao,

the Caramelo shop in Serrano is a gem. While you are there, check the Zara shop just in front. We saw there yesterday some amazing Rajasthan silk embroidered wedding skirts. I hadnīt seen them yet in any of the Madrid shops (only in one of the Bilbao shops), and I wished I had something big going on ... Zara is a complicated place, you must know the shops where you can find the special pieces, such as the Zara Collection line. I would also check Zara Home, their cotton sheets are really good.

Regarding food, there is one place in Almirante that it can be quite good, Cafe Oliver. Mixed style, with a bit of moorish and french influence, but an amazing wine list (and the people there donīt push for the most expensive wine ... ). You might have already been there, mind you.

A good place for tapas and raciones on Sunday morning is the Plaza de la Cebada, near La Latina metro station.

Rgds, Cova

Ps. Nat, to get to Toledo, I would opt for the buses instead of the train. More frequent and probably better, there are only three trains a day to Toledo ...

Cova,
Thanks for the tip. I quess it's better
to take the bus instead of the train
cause the buses go more frequently than the trains. I am also enjoying all the tips on restaurtants and places to shop. This is the greatest
website. People are knowledgable---and very helpful. How hot is it in Madrid and i assume Barcelona is not as hot cause it's farther north- but I could be wrong.
is it humid in Spain- I think it could
be so we'll dress for comfort. natjgc

Hi Kenderina,

the problem with the train between Madrid and Toledo is because some AVE works ( and I donīt have a clue where itīs that AVE going ... ), the trains have been restricted. I went to Toledo two years ago in August, and I thought it had already been solved, but the problem still remains. Not only that, but the train doesnīt arrive to Toledo station, but to another station some 10 kms away, and they put you into buses to drive you downtown. The best option is the bus, without any doubt,

Ciao, sorry for the hijacking of your thread The Urban Hotel has just opened their rooftop swimming pool bar at nights, and it looks great (but expensive).
