A book called Sixty Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong is also quite good, but it's not exactly autobiographical. It's about French culture, attitudes, politics and history - and it's written by a husband and wife journalist team, one anglophone and one francophone (from Quebec). Much better than Polly Platt's books.

wow, missypie. no gowns for the patients? thats just wrong! hehe
and, reading further in the "almost french" book. i think weve determined its not the book wliwl was referring to, but...there is a part where sarah (the author) is prepping for a dinner party. she says that in australia, she would go to one store (a supermarket), and purchase everything she needed for the meal. in paris, she goes to 10 stores - a butcher, a bakery, a cheese shop, and many other stores. thats just how its done.
cant wait for paris in september, and in the mean time...let us know if you have any other good paris reads!
