Whats' a Renault Twingo like?
I am wrenting a Renault Twingo in Siena for 3 days and dropping it off at FCO. Tell me about the luggage capacity. We're two adults and will have 2 25 inch roll ons and a duffle type bag, plus a couple of small carryon types. Does it have a rear hatch (boot)that opens up to the rear seat? Or is it a regular trunk? Have looked at pics of the car on the Renault web site, but cant really get a rear view.

Whats the car like on the Superstrada, Acceleration, gas mileage, etc. All ready believe it will be quite good for narrow roads and tight parking spaces, LOL!

Hi

the twingo is a "sort of" hatchback.

you could also say it is a miniature van.

the rear seats are adjustable.

if you push them forwards you get quite a lot of luggage space.

they are the in the super cheap / utility bracket. expect max sustained highway speeds of around 85 mph and good consumption.

peter
Twingo is a very small monospace, 2 doors and a rear hatch. Back seats are easyly put down (or even removed).
Max. speed 150 km/hr (93 mph) - consumption approx. 6.5 liter per 100 km.
Excellent for driving on narrow roads and for tight parking spaces. Does very good on the highway as well.

it seems you are taking a lot of luggage. Two 25 in cases, a duffle bag and two carry-ons. (FYI, a 25 incher is not a roll on.) That will fit in a Twingo but you will be cramped. And you probably won't be able to hide your luggage under the cover which is a security concern.

Trevor Wyckoff, [email protected], 15 november 2000
My finace and I leased a Twingo last summer for 3 weeks. It was probably one of the easiest parts of our trip to Europe. It came in very handy when we could't find a youth hostel, we just found a campground, or slept in the car. The Twingo really suprised me. I really enjoyed driving it. I am still dealing with some separation issues from when we left it in Paris. Driving in Europe was an experience, but it is nothing that someone used to big city traffic cannot handle. The Twingo was much roomier inside than I expected too. I would not want to fit a family in one, but we were very comfortable, and had more than enough room for our luggage in the trunk. I would highly recommend leasing a Twingo while in Europe. We rode the train once, and found that we REALLY liked being able to drive through Europe. The benefits greatly outweighed any negatives.

Elizabeth Snead, [email protected], 01 june 2000
greetings! well, i LOVED my renault Twingo which i had leased for the month of may in france. what a great car! i have been considering buying one and shipping it to the states. The Twingo, which i had worried might be too small, quite comfortably held two passengers and all of our luggage. Including my poodle! it was shockingly roomy with more headroom than i have ever experienced in a car. the pickup was fantastic (and you need that in france!), the gas mileage, while i did not measure it exactly, was surprisingly good. The air conditioning was superb and kept us cool in the warm Provence sun. The darn thing turns on a dime (as i discovered when i would get oh, "lost" and have to make quick adjustments in my direction!) I put close to $6,000 kilometers on the Twingo in 27 days! Believe me, it got a workout from scaling steep mountain roads up to isolated Cathar castles to manueuvering on the congested Croisette in Cannes during the film festival. I want this car! Wish i had arranged to bring it home with me. Next time! thanks.
elizabeth snead

Thanks for the many replies. I am now very excited and can't wait to get to Italy, so I can get behind the wheel of a Twingo. Actually, the only time there will be any luggage in the car is our last day when we travel from Siena to FCO for flight home.

Tony,
I rented a Twingo for a week in the Loire Valley in France and just loved it. Even though it's a very small car the interior feels very spacious, has good acceleration, handles well, and fits just about anywhere. Just one word of warning, to get into reverse gear you must pull up on the stick. All the US manual stick cars I had driven had been push down on the stick to get into reverse, so I had to go back to the rental car agency to have this explained to me. I was a bit embarrased, but hey I could at least get in reverse.
