Metz is an infuriating city for all of the car rental companies which close for 2 hour precisely at noon, although a TGV arrives from Paris at 12:02.
Meanwhile, I continue to have no gripes with Europcar in France. They charged me for fuel twice in a row even though I had filled the tank before returning the car. A simple email to Europcar got me recredited immediately both times.

I did not read the small print and turned up after noon to be charged the late fee. I thought the receptionist was angry, but I cannot be sure on this point. I write to the hire company and they pointed out that I had to pay the extra fee.
See it was very simple.
But at least you have made it clear to everyone READ THE SMALL PRINT before booking anything on line.
