What type of non alocholic drink is best in Paris?

I'm traveling with my children 11&6 and was wondering what kind of drinks they have, can we get american products there like coke and pepsi?

Yes you can but they are very expensive. If you need them, get them from a grocery store instead of at a restaurant. Expect to pay about 2e each at a sandwich stand or green grocer but expect about 6-9e each at a cafe.

They don't have to drink coke or pepsi but what do they offer to drink in the restaurants there besides water. They always can drink water but I would like them to try something French.

And there are no free refills on anything other than tap water.

Fanta soft drinks are quite good in Europe - less sweet than over here. Fanta Limon is our favorite.

I've never had one, but I understand there is a drink referred to as a "presse" which is basically a do it yourself at the table lemonande or orangade. It's supposed to be very good and the unusual ritual of preparing it yourself would probably be a fun experience for your kids.

Try "citron pressé" - kind of lemonade.

We also like Orangina, a carbonated orange juice drink.

Of course, if you order cider for them, make sure its the non-alcoholic type.

Be careful of the citron presse. As noted, it is a "do it yourself" lemonade. They serve you lemon juice and packets of sugar. It is hard to add enough sugar to make it drinkable. The orange or grapefruit presses are delicious, however. Don't ask for lemonade, they will serve you a Sprite-like drink in a bottle.

Another option is the "Diabolo". It is basically sprite/7up with a flavor added...In the heat my favorite is a Diabolo Menthe but they can make it any syrup flavor like Diabolo Grenadine, Diabolo Cassis etc. Coke seems to always be in small bottles with big prices, and often not really cold.

For value, the Orangina at McD's is the best we found.

Your children might enjoy a perrier fraise - perrier water with a strawberry syrup through it. I assume that other flavours are available too.

My kids were 13, 11 and 9 when we went to Paris. We ALL got hooked on Orangina! It is very lightly carbonated and just barely sweet. It is addicting. But be careful, because now that we're back in Texas we have to go to a specialty store and pay lots of $$$$ for Orangina to feed our addiction.

There is also Orangina Rouge - made with the juice of blood oranges - delicious!

But as noted, you'll pay through the nez for soft drinks in France - often $5.00 or more for a small glass. Might want to train the kids to enjoy water at cafés and pack a few cans from a grocery store for when you're walking around.

There are also orange pressés, which are much sweeter than citron pressés, and you can order water (flat or fizzy) with various kinds of syrup (mint, cassis, apricot, etc) mixed in.

I also would not recommend the citron presse, as it can be quite tart. Some cafes don't serve it correctly, either, and fill the glass so full of lemon juice that it isn't palatable until you drink a lot of it and really water it down (carelessness, I suppose). So most of it is very astringent. Correctly, the lemon juice should only fill a small portion of the glass they give you. If you want soft drinks, I'd go with some local versions instead, but you can compare prices on menus.

These are all great replies, thank you so much for all your ideas, I'm sure my kids would love to try all of these suggestions. It sounds better than the ordinary coke or pepsi! Thank you!!

If they want to try Orangina in advance to see what's available - any supermarket in the US should have it. And the orange presse is also a good idea.
