Layers, layers...think beans, rei, landsend...you'll be fine, polartec is great as it breathes, will add warmth and somewhat water resistant...dries quickly too if wet. Comfortable shoes are a must with cobbled/uneven walkways, paths. We have been having a very stubborn north/easterly front that has much of northern and central Europe unseasonably colder than normal, though this can change is a heartbeat.
European CC's have smart chips which I guess are now being introduced in the states... most service stations still can 'slide' the magnetic strips though, I would ask before getting fuel though to be safe. Be careful...gas is generally ethanol or another alternative gaseous fuel and not gas-oline (petroleum fuel)...you will wonder when you see a strange pump but be careful as you may have a regular or diesel car so make sure to pull up to the right one.

Well. the icy easterlies have finally yielded to southerlies and heavy rain so anything goes. It has been bitterly cold trading at street markets and many layers are great. Sold so many warm hats and scarves though. Fingerless gloves are great.
