Hi Diane,
I would suggest that during the day you dress as you would normally when going to work.
Dinner dress would depend upon where you are going. Local pub, don't dress up. First class restaurant, dressy but not necessarily formal.

In major cities , dress as any other large town, in the villages you can go casual. Bring a Barbour or buy one there for rainy days.

Why do people think that they have to dress differently when they go to Europe? If you dress appropriately and attractively at home, just dress the same way when you travel.

Ira -

People wear all sorts of different things to work, depending on what they do for a living - suits, uniforms, jeans, etc - it completely depends on what one does for a living. Without knowing what Diane does for a living, or if she even works "outside" of her home, this seems like very strange advice.

Diane - I would suggest something along the lines of what "fashion" said, dressier in larger cities, etc.

I was just in Ireland the 1st week in Oct. 2002. It was my 1st time & with a tour group. I wore jeans every day & either a blouse/skirt or nice pants, etc. for dinner. 1 night in Shannon, 3 nights in Killarney & 3 nights in Dublin. Basically, it was how I would have dressed at home and I didn't look out of place. Well.... except for the camera hanging from my neck! But 'Hey!', I WAS a tourist!
