What to see in Portschack, Austria

I will be five days in Portschack near Klagenfurt, Austria. Has anyone been in that area and what would you visit?
Thanks in advance. Dave

Now tha you have corrected the poster's spelling, could you offer some HELPFUL suggestions?

Since you knew the correct spelling, I assume you know some HELPFUL information.

Yes, lauren, I can help.
Pörtschach is o.k for a holiday, the lake is nice, B&Bs are plenty and cheap, Schnitzels are o.k. too. Been there too many times.

You'll find a post office, train station, lake promenade, cinema (german only), police station, cemetery, football field and the jehovas witnesses church there.
The place to go!

Its 2650 inhabitants are mostly catholic and austro/german nationalists. (You'd call them rednecks) .
No anti german feelings there.

Dave,

What time of year will you be there? I haven't been for a number of years, but we used to visit my Grandfather in Pörtschach, and I still have family in the area.

Here's a few ideas:

Klagenfurt is a great little city (visit the Lindwurm)

We always got a kick out of Minimundus, miniatures of world landmarks in a open-air park.

Magdalensberg, a Roman settlement we found fascinating.

Burg Hochosterwitz, my favorite castle/fortress ever.

I need to go back, soon!

Not trying to start a fight, but I think it is always helpful to correct the poster's spelling of a town or place. How else could one look it up on google, etc.?

I mean, I googled Portshack and came up with nothing useful.

However, by spelling it correctly, many helpful websites came up.

Thanks guys. If you were me would you attempt to reach Salzburg via the Grossglockner in one day, or would you take two and stay somewhere south of Salzburg?

It's no problem, technically, to reach Salzburg in one day, should the Glockner road be open. However I'd highly recommend, spending a night at Hohe Tauern. I've spend a few days in Kals recently and really enjoyed it http://www.kals.at/tourismus/de/sommer/default.asp

Just book a room in a Pension there.

Well, you can get from this place to that place by car in a rather short time.
