we wiil arrive in munich for 3 nights, then salzburg for 4 nights, ending in vienna for 4 nights in june . we have two additional days before departure from Vienna. any recommendations on what to do, and where to stay? ? perhaps an additional location? we are travelling exclusively by train. thank you all.

We stayed in Hallstatt for 2 nights at the Gruner Baum Hotel right on the lake. Beautiful little town with salt mine (which is always fun) and World Heritage trail back down from salt mine. From train station you take boat across lake to Halstatt.

my first thought was also hallstatt... an easy trip by train from salzburg, then public boat across the water... and you feel that you are far far away from it all. gorgeous and easy to get to. that's the perfect 2-day'er.
