Palenque - the Christian Democratic Party is determined to make regulations just a bit tighter, but the Social Democrats are opposed to it because they say if prostitution is legal you can monitor it.
The big brothel, called "Bahndamm", is located south of the main station and from the trains you can see the professionals posing in their numbered windows. It always amused our guests from USA when we rode by.
But this should be nothing to affect your travel plans, mandalay.

I forget to write about the Christmas Markets. X-mas markets are practically everywhere in the city centre, perhaps the best one at the Rathaus (city hall). See:

BTW, I am just curious: Why did you select Düsseldorf as a destination and where do stay while in Düsseldorf?

We chose Dusseldorf because we thought it was a good base to do day trips.
We may change our trip a little.
We may only stay 2 nights in Dusseldorf and spend 3 nights in Luxembourg.
What do you think?

You only have 5 days.
From your entry:
We love food, history, culture, shopping almost anything goes.
Paris. 5 days. It's a no-brainer.

Well there are many many better bases with better day trips - and for the average tourist a lot nicer towns and now Luxembourg for 3 days - what are you thinking? What are you going to do in Luxembourg after one day in a town many find bland and boring (though gorgeous as the town is bisected by a deep gorge.
Cochem would be a perfect base - a gem of a smaller city on the gorgeous Mosel River with oodles and oodles of nice easy day trips - like a Rhine River cruise, Burg Eltz one of Germany's most famous castles, Trier, oneof Europe's oldest and most historic towns (a possible day tri from Luxembourg).
cochem - you cna stay in a town like this and not some blah huge city like Dusseldorf:
