Hmmmm...we weren't planning to buy our Roma Pass until we get there. I know that it allows you the first two free entries free. I've read that the Colosseum et al. is a good use for one of them and the Borghese the other. As far as the Borghese goes, do I need to have my Roma Pass in hand when I call them? (That is, do they need any info that will be physically on the pass?) Rome is our first stop, and I'd hate to not book far enough ahead and be left without an open time slot. Thanks so much!

You don't need to have your Roma Pass in hand to make your reservation--you just have to show it when you pick up your reserved tickets. Be sure arrive early, allowing plenty of time to wait in line not only for the tickets but also if you have to check your bags, which is compulsory--purses and cameras, too.

PS: I asked my hotel to call the Borghese Gallery for my reservations. I specified a date and gave them a few options for appointment times, in case my preferred time wasn't available. Then I bought my Roma Pass upon arrival, and it worked out fine.

it might be a good idea to have a look at the borghese website to check what time slots are available on what dates before you phone- then hopefully you can get something convenient for you.

are you interested in the Scavi tour under St. Peter's? you need to book that in advance too.

I agree with Greg and annhig's list of sites to prebook unless you want to risk not seeing them or wasting hours in line. If your dates are in June you will definitely see lines at the most popular sites.

I just jumped onto the site for the Uffizi for my trip later this month and many of the morning time slot tickets are sold out. I am not a fan of spending my time waiting to buy a ticket when I've spent so much $ getting there.

Be sure you are on official websites when purchasing to limit the upcharges. If you google a site the first thing up isn't always the official site but a rip off company charging more to buy online.

For the Paris museum pass I always go first to a less crowded museum and buy it there rather than standing in line for it at Musee D'Orsay or the Louvre. Even if it didn't save me any money I love this pass because there are passholder lines that let you breeze right in at crowded places like the Musee D'Orsay and L'Orangerie. I believe this is the official site to purchase tickets for Florence museums. http://www.b-ticket.com/b-ticket/uffizi/default.aspx There is a small charge for purchasing in advance but well worth the time saved.
